BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College baseball team dropped the third and final game of an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series to St. Andrews (N.C.) on Sunday, falling 5-3 to the visiting Knights.

With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 21-13 on the year and 9-6 in the AAC, while St. Andrews improved to 17-23 and 5-11 in the AAC with the victory. Union, though, won the season two games to one, having swept the doubleheader on Saturday.

St. Andrews got on the board early with four runs in the first. The Bulldogs finally put numbers on the board after a wild pitch and an RBI single from Francisco Ogando (JR/Bronx, N.Y.).

The following innings remained scoreless until the seventh when the Knights added an insurance run to close the gap 5-2.

In the ninth, the Bulldogs were able to get Michael Castillo (SR/New York, N.Y.) on base with a walk, who later scored on an RBI single from Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.). That was all the Bulldogs could do as the Knights walked away with a two-run victory to salvage one win in the AAC series.

Overall, Valentin and Ogando each had an RBI on the day for the Bulldogs, with Valentin going 2-for-5.

Casey Whittle pitched well for Union in relief, tossing 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball and allowing four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Alex Fuller took the loss for the Bulldogs.
