BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -The Bulldogs and the V-Hawks of Viterbo University took action in a non-conference nine-inning game Thursday. Visiting Viterbo (Wi.) made things interesting with a close game 6-5, until the eighth when Union scored two to make the final 8-5.

With the win, Union improves to 12-10 on the season, while Viterbo falls to 0-14 overall.

Ronnie Healy (SR/Jupiter, Fla.) had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, one run scored, and five RBIs. The digger was Healy's fourth of the year and eighth for his career.

The V-Hawks got the game started in the top of the second when scoring two runs. The Bulldogs scored four runs of their own in the bottom of the second giving them the 4-2 lead. J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored on a RBI single from Pudge Morgan (FR/Glasgow, Ky.). Union loaded up the bases with no outs, but the Viterbo got the next two batters out without allowing a run to score. However, Joe Gaines (SO/London, Ky.) walked to push a run across, and Healy followed with a single to score two.

Union added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Pena tripled down right-field line, later scoring on a Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.) RBI single to make it 5-2.

Viterbo tied things back up in the top of the sixth adding three more runs, but Union would have the final say in that inning scoring Gaines after he reached on a walk and scored on a sac fly from Healy.

In the eighth, Union tackled on two insurance runs to into the ninth and final inning up 8-5.

John Costello took the loss for the V-Hawks, while Logan Groce (SO/Huntland, Tenn.) got the win and Talon Kunkel (SR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) collected the save.

Pudge Morgan led the Bulldogs offensive attack in going 3-for-4 with one RBI, followed by Joe Gaines going 2-for-3, with two runs scored, and one RBI.

The teams combined for 20 hits with Union tallying 15 hits. Union also stole four bases.
