WEST POINT, Ga. – The Union College baseball team split an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader with host Point University on Friday afternoon, winning the opener 1-0 before falling 4-0 in the finale.

With the results, the Bulldogs move to 10-7 overall and 1-1 in AAC play, while the Skyhawks are 8-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Game One

Both teams were quiet offensively early, as the first five innings cruised by with little to no action at the plate or on the base paths.

In the top of the sixth, three of the four hits would come during this inning, including the game-winning hit. Chris Lane (JR/Battle Ground, Wash.) doubled and later scored on a Michael Castillo (SR/New York, N.Y.) RBI single.

The win would go to Dolan Kunkel (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), needing only 77 pitches as he struck out two and allowed only two hits and no runs.

Game Two

The second game was the same as the first game as neither of the teams could get on the board until the sixth inning. It was Point who scored four runs in the bottom of inning giving them a 4-0 advantage into the final inning.

Union would not put up a single run, and only had one hit - a Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.)e single.

Up Next

Union and Point return to the field tomorrow to wrap up the three-game weekend series for a one nine-inning contest. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
