COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Union College men's and women's swimming teams continued competition at the 2017 NAIA National Championships on Thursday at the Columbus Aquatic Center, and several Bulldogs posted strong finishes.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs in day two of championship was Lara Kaufmann (SR/Schwerte, Germany) in the 500-freestyle as she came away with an eighth-place finish. Kaufmann finished with a time of 5:14.82, earning CSCAA All-American honors in the event.

Leading the way for the men in individual competition was Ivar de Jong (SO/Almere, The Netherlands) who finished 12th in the 200-medley (1:54.70).

In relay action, the Union women finished 10th in the 200-freestyle relay (1:39.90). The Union men finished 14th in the 400-medley relay (3:32.10).

After day one action, the Union men stand in 14th place with a team score of 17 while the women stand in 11th place with a score of 37.

"As expected, the meet is very competitive and fast," states Head Coach Rafael Forti. "Glad to see our swimmers achieve a number of season-best and few personal-best performances at the national meet."
