KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Dannika Prater (SO/Clarksville, Tenn.) led the eighth-seeded Union College women's basketball team with 18 points in a 79-47 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) first round win over No. 9 seed Allen (S.C.) Wednesday morning at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 17-13 on the season while Allen wraps up their season with a 13-18 record.

Union raced out to an early 10-0 lead on back-to-back field goals from Aaliyah Lumson (JR/Mayfield, Ky.) at the 9:54 mark in the first quarter, followed by another at the 8:15 mark. While Prater hit a 3-pointer and a field goal before the 6:00 mark, but Allen battled back closing the gap 15-12 at the end of the quarter.

Lumson put the Bulldogs back in action at the beginning of the second quarter with a 3-point basket. Union increased their lead from three points at the beginning to being ahead by eight at the end of the half, after Cheyanne Stidham (SO/Whitesburg, Ky.) hit a 3-point basket at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 37-29 lead going into the locker room.

Brianna Adler (FR/Burlington, Ky.) led the Bulldogs with 11 first-half points while Dekoya Mack paced the Yellow Jackets with 14 points.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room with fire in their eyes as Maci Spence (SR/Mt. Sterling, Ky. ) hit three field goals to give Union a 14-point lead with 5:00 remaining in the third quarter.

Allen kept trying to close the gap on Union, but the Bulldogs would keep hitting shots as Reagan King (SR/Hindman, Ky.) hit a 3-pointer a the Bulldogs built a 16-point lead – a margin Union took into the fourth quarter.

Prater began the fourth as she hit three back-to-back 3-point baskets as the Bulldogs commanded a 69-41 lead with 5:36 on the clock. King sealed the Bulldogs win over the Yellow Jackets, 79-47 with a 3-pointer followed by a field goal to giving Union the 32-point victory.

Leading the way for Union was Prater, who went a perfect 4-for-4 at the arc and had four rebounds. Adler finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while King finished with 13 points.

The Bulldogs will move on to play the No.1 seed Milligan (Tenn.) in the 2017 AAC Tournament quarterfinals. Tipoff is set for 8:30 a.m.
