COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Union College baseball team battled to take a close game against No. 6 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Tuesday afternoon, but the host Blue Raiders were able to take the win in extra innings after Union tied it up in the top of the eight. Lindsey Wilson would take the win after a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning scoring a run with a final of 6-5 in NAIA action.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 5-6 overall, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 3-7 with the victory.

Lindsey Wilson struck first putting a run on the board at the bottom of the second inning. Union fought back putting three across in the top of the fourth. Francisco steps up to the plate and hits a single, followed by Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.) who reaches base on an error. With two on base and two outs, Robbie DelaMontaige hits a three-run homerun on a 0-2 count to get the Bulldogs on the board.

However, the Bulldogs allowed three to score in the bottom of the fourth giving Lindsey the lead back. Into the sixth inning the Blue Raiders put another run on the board giving them the 5-3 lead going into the seventh inning.

But, in the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs began their comeback bid, getting on the scoreboard with a run to make it a 5-4 game. In the top of the eighth, Union added the game tying run, cutting the Lindsey Wilson lead as Ronnie Healy (SR/Jupiter, Fla.) hit a double to deep center field. Daniel Neal's single put Healy in scoring position. The Blue Raiders turned a double play out, but Healy was able to score on the play tying the game 5-5.

After a scoreless ninth inning, the game into extras. The Bulldogs came to bat in the top of the 10th, but were unable to get a run across. In the bottom of the frame, the Blue Raiders got a runner into scoring position, after hitting a pair of singles and an error. Lindsey Wilson's Ben Giland scored the game-winning run after Steven Paredes' sac fly to deep center.

Overall, the Bulldogs pounded out 11 hits in the defeat, while Lindsey had 13 hits.

DelaMontaigne led the way, going 1-for-5 with one run scored, and three RBIs, while J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) and Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.) were each 2-for-5 with an RBI from Pena.

On the mound, starter Talon Kunkel (SR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) pitched four innings allowing six hits and four runs, but the loss would go to Daniel Neal pitching 2 1/3 inning allowing one run and one hit.

Union returns to action this weekend, hosting Cincinnati-Clermont a four-game series starting on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
