BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Union College women's bowling team posted a fourth-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament, while the Union men placed seventh.

The tournament was held at Southern Lanes in Bowling Green, Ky., this past weekend.

In the women's competition, the Bulldog advanced to the semifinal round of the winners' bracket before falling to Campbellsville (Ky.). Seeded-seventh in the tournament, Union opened with a 4-2 (177-16 162-187, 126-163, 199-142, 134-126, 166-143) win over No. 10 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Union then defeated second-seeded Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 4-3. The Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take the match by the final scores of 178-191, 149-157, 169-180, 222-171, 182-174, 165-164, 175-147.

No. 3 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) sent Union to the losers' bracket with a 4-0 decision. But Union bounced back with a 4-3 win over N. 9 seed Tennessee Wesleyan, winning 210-156, 136-142, 146-190, 154, 178, 225-181, 143-135, 188-146.

The Bulldogs' luck ran out in the final four as they fell in a rematch with Lindenwood-Belleville by the score of 4-2. Coincidently, Union's two losses were to the teams, which advanced to the championship round with Campbellsville finishing the tournament undefeated to take the title.

In the men's competition, Union went 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament to finish tied for seventh.

The ninth-seeded Bulldogs opened with a 4-0 loss to No. 8 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Union rebounded with a 4-3 win over No. 3 seed Lindenwood-Belleville, winning 175-189, 170-162, 179-172, 175-169, 156-191, 138-215, 178-162. Yet, Union's run came to an end with a 4-3 loss to seventh-seeded Life (Ga.).

On the opening day of the tournament, the teams competed in singles and doubles competitions. For the men, Tyler Barnett (JR/Atoka, Tenn.) posted the team's highest finish as he came in 12th with a total pinfall of 925. Barnett and Jerry Whobrey (FR/Louisville, Ky.) teamed up for an eighth-place showing with a combined pinfall of 1,836.

For the women, Jameson Tarrant (FR/Jacksonville, Fla.) posted the best finish in singles play as she came in 41st with a pinfall of 786. Tarrant and Kaitlin Duff (FR/Nicholasville, Ky.) joined forces to lead Union in doubles action with a 23rd finish with a combined pinfall of 1,555.

The Union men's and women's teams will now await to see if they qualify for the USBC Sectional Tournament, which will be held on March 12-13.
