BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College took game one from Davenport (Mich.) to begin the weekend series, but after Saturday's rain forced the remaining games to be a doubleheader on Sunday, the Bulldogs' luck ran out as the Panthers registered a 7-2 win, followed by a 1-0 win.

Following the weekend action, the Bulldogs sit at 5-5 on the year. The Panthers are 8-4 overall.

Game One – Davenport 7, Union 2

The Bulldog bullpen combine for 6 2/3 innings of work and allowed only three runs on seven hits. John Hisel (SO/Lexington, Ky.) was most impressive in going 4 2/3 innings, surrendering one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

Unfortunately, Davenport scored two runs in the top of the second and two more in the third for an early 4-2 advantage.

For the second game in a row, Union's lead off J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) has scored in the first inning. The Bulldogs have tallied nine runs in the first inning through the first three games of the year. With a full count, Pena led off with a walk and moved to second on a stolen base. Back-to-back groundouts sent him to third and then home to put Union on the board.

After the Panthers tacked on two runs in the second and top of the third, it remained 4-1 until Joe Gaines (SO/London, Ky.) was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third, then scored after a double by Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.).

In the top of the sixth a homerun by Brian Sobiski would add another run on the board for the Panthers. The Bulldogs would not allow any runs in the seventh, but would allow two more in the top of the eighth to give Davenport the 7-2 win.

Pena would go 1-for-1, with one run scored, while Valentine recorded two RBIs in going 2-for-4.

Game Two – Davenport 1, Union 0

In game two, it remained scoreless until Davenport scored the one and only run of the game when Jeremey Vasquez came home on a bases-loaded walk.

Alex Fuller (SR/Franklin, Ky.) would pitch a total of six innings with just three hits while striking out eight. Talon Kunkel (SR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) would finish out the seventh inning for the Bulldogs, setting the Panthers down in order with one strikeout.

Union's lone hit came in the seventh courtesy of Pena.
