BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.), Michael Castillo (SR/New York, N.Y.), and Francisco Ogando (JR/Bronx, N.Y.) combined to hit three home runs to guide Union College to an 8-5 victory over visiting Davenport (Mich.) on Friday.

In all, the Bulldogs pounded out nine hits in the first matchup against the Panthers.  Valentin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a solo home run, while Castillo also drove in one run on a 1-for-4 performance.  Ogando would go 1-for-4 with one RBI for the Bulldogs.

Union now owns a 5-3 overall record, while the Panthers are 6-4 on the season.

The Bulldogs wasted little time and struck first as leadoff hitter J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) reached base on a hit by pitch and later scored on Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.)'s groundout.

In the third, Union added to its advantage as Chris Lane (JR/Battle Ground, Wash.) and Joe Gaines (SO/London, Ky.) each scored on a single by Valentin to advance 3-1 over Davenport.

Davenport would tie it up in the top of fourth, as Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle hit a homerun, and Nolan Page lined a triple to bring in one run. Cam Bair added a run-scoring single to even the score at 3-all.

However, Union wasn't going down without a fight as Ogando led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run. In the fifth, Union added to its lead as Pena led off the bottom of the fourth by tripling to deep right to get into scoring position. Gaines singled Pena home to take a 5-3. Valentin followed with a two-run homerun for a 7-3 cushion.

Castillo belted a solo shot in the sixth to up Union's margin to 8-3.

The Panthers pushed a run across in each seventh and ninth innings, but the Bulldogs held on for the win.

On the mound, Dolan Kunkel (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) captured the win hurling 5 innings. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

For the Panthers, Will Harris paced the way going 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored, while Oscar Heredia who went 3-for-4 from the plate with a run.
