WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Union College baseball team traveled down the interstate to take on non-conference rival University of the Cumberlands, dropping an 11-3 contest on Wednesday.

With the results, the Bulldogs fall to 4-3 overall with the Patriots improving to -7-2 on the season.

After coming off the split with the No. 19 Northwestern Ohio, Union wasn't able to keep the momentum going.

In the first, Cumberlands leaped out to the early 2-0 lead thanks to back-to-back home runs to start off the game.

The Bulldogs cracked the scoreboard in the third thanks to a J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) RBI single to score Zane Britton (SO/Greeneville, Tenn.). However, Cumberlands tacked on a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1. The Patriots put up for in the fourth for a six-run cushion and did not look back.

Union scored a run in each the sixth and eighth innings, but Cumberlands countered with a run in the sixth and three more in the eighth to lock up the 11-3 outcome.

Overall, Gaines went 1-for-3 from the plate with one run scored, and Healy also went 1-for-3 but with an RBI on the day. Francisco Ogando (JR/Bronx, N.Y.) had the remaining RBI for the Bulldogs.

Jesse Reyes paced the way for the Patriots going 3-for-4 from the dish with three solo home runs.
