BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College baseball team picked up a series spilt in a two-day four-game series against No. 19 Northwestern Ohio over the weekend.

Union won the opener on Saturday 5-4 in 12 innings before falling 8-0 and 17-3 in the next two games before finishing the serious out with a 4-1 win in the finale.

With the split, Union moves to 4-2 overall, while Northwestern Ohio is now 11-6 overall.

Game Two – UNOH 8, Union 0

In a game that was suspended due to darkness on Saturday, the Racers pitcher Damon Proctor pitched a perfect game. He tossed five scoreless innings on Saturday and returned to the mound on Sunday to complete the perfect game as Northwestern Ohio picked up the 8-0 victory.

Game Three – UNOH 17, Union 3

The Racers continued their hitting streak, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Union found itself down 13-0 in the fifth inning when it would put three on the scoreboard. Evan Figert (FR/Franklin, Ky.), Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.), and Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.) each picked up RBIs in the inning.

Northwestern Ohio tacked on four runs in the sixth to lock up the win.

Coming off the bench, Figert went 1-for-2 with a RBI, and one run scored. Valentin went 1-for-3 from the plate with a RBI, as Castillo also scored one run and had a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

Game Four – Union 4, UNOH 1

In the final game of the series, the Bulldogs came out with vengeance and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead

Leadoff batter J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored for the Bulldogs in the first inning. After getting on with a single and advancing to second on a groundout, Pena scored when he stole third and the throw sailed into the outfield. In the bottom of the second, Union had the bases loaded when a wild pitch allowed Francisco Ogando (JR/Bronx, N.Y.) to score for a 2-0 advantage.

Racers rallied back in the third in getting one run, but the Bulldogs would increase their lead in the fourth and fifth innings, adding a run in each frame. Ogando scored on a Pena single in the fourth, and Daniel Neal crossed the plate in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded walk.

Pena was on fire in the second game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Neal finished 2-for-4 from the plate with a run scored, while Ogando scored twice.

Alex Fuller (SR/Franklin, Ky.) threw six innings, allowing five hits and one run on the game before Talon Kunkel (SR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) came in to finish for the save. Both pitchers struck out two batters apiece.
