BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College men's swimming coach Rafael Forti has announced that Jared Smith has signed his national letter of intent and will join the Bulldog program for the start of the 2017 fall semester.

"I'm glad to have Jared joining our school and program," Forti states. "He will add depth to our sprint individual events as well as sprint relays. He has potential to be explored, and I am excited to have the chance to work with him. He will fit in well in our program."

Smith, a native of Ashland, Ky., prepped at the Ashland Area YMCA. During Smith's five years swimming, he was awarded the High Point Boy Freshman of the Year.

After graduating from Boyd County High School Smith will be an asset to the Union swim program in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, and 200 breaststroke events.

Smith, the son of Kevin Smith and Valerie Steele, plans to major in education at Union.
