BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Union College women's basketball team made a late push to steal the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory on Saturday, but host Bluefield (Va.) held on for the 69-64 decision.

The loss drops Union to 11-6 overall and 5-5 in league play, while Bluefield improves to 10-6 overall and 6-4 in the AAC.

The Bulldogs trailed by as much as eight in the third quarter but closed out the period on a 9-2 run to head into the fourth only down 47-46. Cheyenne Stidham started the rally with a 3-pointer, and Maci Spence (SR/Mt. Sterling, Ky. ) capped the run with back-to-back buckets to make it a one-point contest.

Despite the closeness of the contest, Union did not retake the lead until late in the fourth when Aaliyah Lumson (JR/Mayfield, Ky.) drained a 3-pointer to put Union up 59-58 with 2:54 to play. After the teams traded buckets, the Bulldogs led 61-60 at the 2:42 mark. However, the Rams went on a 9-0 run to build a 69-61 cushion with 17 seconds to play.

Stidham hit her third 3-pointer of the day in the waning moments, but Union still fell 69-64.

Spence led the Bulldogs with 16 points with Kasey Young (JR/Danville, Ky.) following with 11. Stidham followed with nine.

For Bluefield, Courtney Kendrick led the way with 13, while Whitney Smith and Autumn Hash each chipped in 12.
