BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College head volleyball coach Jeremy Wise announced the addition of Haley Ellison to the Bulldogs' 2017 roster.
Ellison, a senior at Somerset High School in Somerset, Ky., is the first signee for the Bulldogs for the 2017 campaign.
"Haley is a good student and great athlete," said Wise of Ellison.
The incoming Bulldogs plays libero, and Wise noted she is "gifted with tremendous athletic ability and is a raw athlete who is fine tuning her sports this season."
Wise continued, "Not only does she bring speed and defense to the court, but she also will be a vocal leader in the backcourt sharing her high volleyball playing IQ. She sees the floor well and communicates changes that need to be made and tendencies she sees. Haley is a natural leader and someone you want to be on the floor next to while playing."
In addition to playing volleyball, Ellison plans to run track as well at Union.
Ellison plays club volleyball for the Horizon Volleyball Club in London, Ky. She will also be on a regional high school team of players that Wise will be talking to Australia this summer to compete in the Down Under Sports Festival this July.
Union completed arguably its best season ever, tying the program record for wins in a season in finishing 34-11 overall. The Bulldogs captured both the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular-season and tournament championships and went 2-2 in the NAIA National Championship Tournament, becoming the first team in the AAC to win a match in the national tournament.
