BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College junior Rachel Andrews (JR/Louisville, Ky. ) earned a spot on the 2016 NAIA Northeast Region Team with teammate Marissa Elam (JR/Muncie, Ind.) earning an honorable mention, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced.

This is the second year in a row both Andrews and Elam made the region team with each receiving honorable mentions in 2015.

Andrews led Union with 381 kills and a 0.315 hitting percentage, which ranks 36th in the NAIA. The 2016 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year, Andrews twice posted 19 kills in a match with the most recent coming in a 3-1 win at Bluefield (Va.) on Oct. 18. She recorded double-digit kills in 24 matches this season.

During the AAC Tournament, Andrews tallied 34 total kills as the Bulldogs swept their way to the championship. She helped Union to a 2-2 record in the NAIA National Championship, recording 10 kills in each of the Bulldogs' wins.

Elam recorded 370 kills on the year and boasts a 0.270 hitting percentage. Like Andrews, Elam earned All-AAC First Team honors. She also registered a season-best 19 kills on two different occasions with the most recent coming in a 3-2 loss against Cumberlands (Ky.).

In helping Union to its third straight AAC Tournament crown, Elam earned Tournament MVP honors. She notched 34 total kills in the Bulldogs' four NAIA National Championship matches.

Union finished the season 34-11 overall and 20-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs won both the AAC regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the third year in a row. Union advanced to the final site of the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, for the first time in program history and went 1-2 in pool play.
