LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Union College women's basketball captured its fourth Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory with a 59-50 win over St. Andrews (N.C.) on Saturday.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the AAC while the Knights fall to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference.  

For the seventh time this season, Maci Spence (SR/Mt. Sterling, Ky. ) posted a double-double performance to pace Union. The senior forward registered 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting and 11 rebounds.

Union jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Knights 16-8 in the first quarter. The Bulldogs defense started hot holding St. Andrews to just 25 percent from the field. The second quarter saw the Knights flip the margin and grabbed the momentum by going on a 7-2 run to end the second frame. But the Bulldogs remained on top with a 22-18 lead heading into the break.

In the third quarter, Spence gave Union a boost of energy with a huge block that ignited a 6-0 run to put the Bulldogs up by 12 points at 41-29 at the 1:37 mark.

The Bulldogs continued to cruise offensively in the fourth as the team never gave up the lead. After a Katrina Johnson (FR/Pineville, Ky.)'s field goal with 4:11 left, Union extended their lead out to the largest of the day at 14 points.

St. Andrews tried to make a final surge with a 15-3 run but the Bulldogs stayed relentless and picked up the 59-50 conference victory over the Knights.

Union's Katrina Johnson, Dannika Prater (SO/Clarksville, Tenn.) and Cheyanne Stidham (SO/Whitesburg, Ky.) all ended with eight points while the Knights LeeAysia Williamson led all scorers with 21 points.
