KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Union College's Brianna Adler (FR/Burlington, Ky.) registered a game-high 23 points to lift the Bulldogs past Rio Grande 88-80 in their final game of the NAIA Showcase.

The win gets the Bulldogs back to its winning ways to own a 8-1 overall record and finish splitting in the NAIA Showcase. The RedStorm falls to 4-4 overall.

Following a trend, Union came out to a slow start offensively as Rio Grande ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run to outscore the Bulldogs 21-16.

But that momentum would quickly turn for Union as a Cheyanne Stidham (SO/Whitesburg, Ky.) 3-pointer capped off a 7-0 rally to game up 27-27 with 7:36 left in the second quarter. The Bulldogs closed out the first half on a strong note capturing a eight point lead while Adler scored the team's final five points to give the Bulldogs the 39-31 lead at the break.

The second half was more back-and-forth play between the RedStorm and Union. However, the Bulldogs used a 8-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to grab at 68-57 lead. With 1:07 left in regulation, Rio Grande cut the Bulldogs lead down to three with a Jaida Carter two point basket but that would be as close as they would get. Union went on to fend off the scrappy RedStrom to come away with the 88-80 victory.

Adler paced all scorers with 23 points, collecting most her points from the free-throw line as the freshman went an impressive 15-fo-16 from the charity stripe. Maci Spence (SR/Mt. Sterling, Ky. ) was another player who put on a strong performance posting another double-double, ending with 18 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Nannilena White (JR/Frankfort, Ky.) also chipped in 10 points.

Union returns to action on Wednesday, as the Bulldogs travels to Truett McConnell (Ga.) to get back to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
