BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College football team recently wrapped up the 2016 campaign, and four Bulldogs landed on the Mid-South Conference (MSC) All-Academic Team, the league announced Tuesday.

Collecting the honors are Bradley Elkins (SO/Pikeville, Ky.), Chandler Whittlesey (SR/Columbus, Ga.), Ryan Coleman (JR/Dacula, Ga.) and Cody Johnson (JR/Maple Rapids, Mich.). For Coleman and Johnson, this is the second year in a row they have received this award.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.

Elkins, a sophomore wide receiver from Pikeville, Ky., led the team in receptions with 35 as he amassed 391 receiving yards and one touchdown. He averaged 11.2 yards per catch. On Oct. 8, Elkins registered his only 100-yard receiving game as he hauled in five catches for 116 yards and a score against Bethel (Tenn.).

Whittlesey, a senior quarterback from Columbus, Ga., played in four games before suffering a season-ending injury. When he was on the field, he passed for 1,047 and yard 12 touchdowns and rushed for 157 yards and two more scores. Whittlesey wrapped up his career with 6,127 passing yards and 1,622 rushing yards in his career.

Coleman, a junior linebacker from Dacula, Ga., made 76 total tackles on the season with 1.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss. He also broke up two passes, forced a fumble and recovered another. Coleman registered 10 or more tackles in a game three times, posting a season-best 12 stops against Bethel.

Johnson, a senior tight end from Maple Rapids, Mich., caught 14 passes for 113 yards, averaging 8.1 yards per reception. He made a season-high three catches against Kentucky Christian on Oct. 22.

Union posted a 5-6 overall record and went 4-2 in MSC East in 2016. The four conference wins are the most for the Bulldogs since 2010.
