LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Union College bowling teams posted solid finishes at the Bulldog Classic over the weekend with the women placing sixth and the men 12th.

"The women had an outstanding weekend. They pulled together as a team to finish the first semester of conference play on a good note," said Union coach Brandy Hensley.

After the opening five games, Union sat in eighth place with pinfall of 4,084. The Bulldogs put together four strong games to close out the classic to finish with a total score of 7,527.

Pikeville (Ky.) won the event with a pinfall of 8,379 with Martin Methodist coming in second at 8,301.

Kendall Lane (JR/Charlotte, N.C.) paced Union with an 18th-place showing as she racked up a pinfall of 1,554.

The Union men found themselves in a hole early but finished strong to place 12th.

"The men struggled, but learned a lot things that will help them improve when their competition resumes in January," Hensley said. 

Following the first day's action, Union was 13th with a 4,238 pinfall. But the Bulldogs rallied with four solid games to amass a total pinfall of 7,610 to land 12th overall.

Pikeville took top team honors with a score of 8,879, while Morehead State (Ky.) finished second at 8,703.

Jerry Whobrey (FR/Louisville, Ky.) led the Bulldogs individually, placing 25th with a pinfall of 1,535. Tyler Barnett (JR/Atoka, Tenn.) notched a top-50 showing also, checking in at 35th with a score of 1,386.

The Union men does not return to the lanes until Jan. 28-29 when it places at the Lindsey Wilson Baker Classic, while the Union women will participate in the Brunswick Southern Classic in Marietta, Ga., on Saturday and Sunday.
