BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College volleyball team dominated the net as it posted a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) sweep over visiting Point (Ga.) on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs hammered home 49 kills and registered 10.0 total team blocks in recording the 25-20, 25-15, 26-24 victory.

"I'm pleased with our smart play tonight," said Union coach Jeremy Wise. "Point came out and gave us a great match, and we were able to stay focused and finish with smart plays late at the end of sets to give us a hard-fought, three-set win tonight."

With the win, Union improves to 26-8 overall and 17-2 in the AAC. Point drops to 8-18 overall and 5-14 in league play.

The Skyhawks jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the first set, but the Bulldogs utilized an 8-2 rally to grab a 15-13 advantage. After Point tied it at 15, Union opened up a 20-16 lead with the help of a Maggie McGraw (SO/Elkhorn, Wis.) ace and two kills from Rachel Andrews (JR/Louisville, Ky. ). Point pulled within 22-20 before Union reeled off the final three points of the frame for the 25-20 win.

The second set opened up much like the first as the score was tight early on. However, the Bulldogs used a 7-2 spurt to open up an 18-12 lead. Three straight points by Point made it 18-15, but Union closed out the set on a 6-0 run to lock up the 25-15 set victory.

Point looked as if it would take the third set as it built 12-5 lead. Union, though, began to claw its way back, using a 13-4 stretch to seize an 18-16 lead. Tied at 19-all, Point surged ahead 22-19, yet Union responded with a 5-0 spurt for a 24-22 advantage. Back-to-back errors by Union allowed Point to tie the set at 24-all, but kills by Julia Edmonds (SR/Burlington, Ky.) and Elle Barnett (JR/Lexington, Ky.) sealed the 26-24 set win and 3-0 match victory.

Andrews finished the match with a team-high 12 kills with Maddie Jergesen (FR/Carson City, Nev.) following with 10. Jenna Nelson (JR/Florence, Ky. ) helped out with eight. Edmonds and Barnett each tallied five total blocks, while Jergesen recorded four.

Ivana Kazic (SR/Belgrade, Serbia) registered 22 assists with Carson Gray (SO/Alexandria, Ky.) added 20, and Paulina Hileman (JR/Johnstown, Colo.) posted 19 digs.

As a team, the Bulldogs hit 0.265 with 49 kills and 13 errors in 113 total attacks. Conversely, the Skyhawks posted a 0.000 hitting percentage with 21 kills and 21 errors in 104 total attacks.

"I would also like to thank the fans for supporting us and wearing their pink for breast cancer awareness tonight," Wise added. "They really added a festive environment for our match."
