GRAYSON, Ky. – A pair of late turnovers proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Union College football team fell 21-14 at Kentucky Christian University in Mid-South Conference (MSC) East play.

In what was a defensive battle, Union narrowly outgained Kentucky Christian 214-180 in total offense.

After falling behind early, the Bulldogs tied the game up at 7-7 when Alex Bell (JR/Daytona Beach, Fla.) hit Deyontre Jordan (FR/Lakeland, Fla.) for a 17-yard scoring strike with 12:18 left in the first half. The touchdown reception was Jordan's seventh of the year.

It remained knotted at 7-all until late in the third when backup quarterback Victor Garth (FR/Decatur, Ala.) hooked up with Brandon Blackley (FR/Chesnee, S.C.) for a 54-yard touchdown pass. Following Derek Burgett (FR/Somerset, Ky. )'s PAT, Union led 14-7 with 1:51 to go in the third.

Midway through the fourth, Union appeared to be on its way to sealing the win as it driven the ball down to the Kentucky Christian 8. However, Emmett Keys picked off Garth's pass at the 2 and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown, pulling the Knights even at 14-all with 8:01 remaining.

Another Kentucky Christian interception set it up at the Union 12 with under two minutes to play. Sonny Smith punched the ball in from 7 yards out to put the Knights up 21-14 with 1:52 to play.

Harley Goins (JR/McColl, S.C.) led Union defensively with 17 total tackles along with 2.5 tackles for a loss, while Serge Vita (SR/Pasadena, Calif.) registered 4.0 tackles for a loss with 11 total stops. In all, the Bulldogs recorded 11 tackles for a loss.

Union tallied only 97 passing yards. Blackley led the receiving corps with two catches for 60 yards. Izayah Riettie (FR/Lakeland, Fla.) led the ground game with 47 yards on nine attempts.

The loss drops Union to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in MSC East play. Kentucky Christian improves to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
