COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Union College football team got off to a fast start, but No. 7 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) closed out the game with 33 consecutive points en route to the 53-17 win on Saturday.

The loss drops Union to 3-2 overall, while Lindsey Wilson improves to 6-0.

Taking the opening possession, Alex Bell (JR/Daytona Beach, Fla.) got things rolling for Union has he hit Tyler Toombs (SO/Stone Mountain, Ga.) for an 82-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage, putting the Bulldogs up 7-0 only 20 seconds into the game.

Lindsey Wilson countered with a pair of Blake Ingleton touchdowns on a runs of 36 and 5 yards for a 14-7 advantage. Derek Burgett (FR/Somerset, Ky. ) closed out the scoring in the first with a 26-yard field goal to pull Union within 14-10.

Dylan Beasley hooked up Tyrone Stallard for a 33-yard scoring pass with 13:55 remaining in the half, giving Lindsey Wilson a 20-10 lead. Justice Bishop (SO/Greensburg, Ky.) came up big on the PAT as he blocked Jared Dougherty's attempt to keep it a 10-point game.

Late in the second, Bell orchestrated an 11-play, 64-yard scoring drive to draw the Bulldogs within 20-17. He capped the drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Deyontre Jordan (FR/Lakeland, Fla.) with 4:34 to go.

However, Beasley tossed his second and final touchdown pass with 1:12 left in the half, a 3-yard strike to Allen Cooks to give the Blue Raiders a 27-17 halftime edge.

The third quarter nearly went scoreless for both teams, but Lindsey Wilson received an 80-yard touchdown run from Jalen Sublett with four seconds left to up the margin to 33-17.

Lindsey Wilson tacked on three more touchdown runs in the fourth to lock up the 53-17 win.

Making his first start since the 2014 season, Bell recorded his first career 300-yard passing game with 330 on 19-of-38 passing. Bradley Elkins (SO/Pikeville, Ky.) led the team with five receptions for 81 yards, while Jordan pulled down four passes for 30 yards.

Bulldog Notes

  • Justavious Robinson (FR/Alexander City, Ala.) led the team with a season-high 13 total tackles with Tyler Wright (SO/Greer, S.C.) and Jake Averhart (JR/Corner, Ala.) following with 12 and 11, respectively.
  • The Bulldog defense recoded 8.0 tackles for a loss and 4.0 sacks. Serge Vita (SR/Pasadena, Calif.) paced Union with 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss with Seth Nichols (SO/Simpsonville, S.C.) had a sack and 2.0 tackles for a loss.
  • Nichols also had an interception and broke up two other passes to go with his eight total tackles.
  • Burgett is 3-for-3 on field goals this season and 23-of-24 on PATs.
  • Jordan leads the team in scoring with 42 points with six receiving touchdowns and one rushing score.
