BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College senior Chandler Whittlesey (SR/Columbus, Ga.) is the Mid-South Conference (MSC) East Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Bulldog signal-caller orchestrated a fourth-quarter comeback on Saturday, leading Union to a 49-45 victory over visiting and MSC East rival Cumberlands (Ky.).

"Chandler's performance this week exemplified his character," said Union head coach Zak Willis. "He never gave up and handled himself with class and composure against a great opponent. We are very proud of him."

This is the second time this season Whittlesey received this honor. On Sept. 12, he earned the award after helping Union to a 47-40 win over then-No. 17 Campbellsville (Ky.).

Against Cumberlands, Union trailed 45-35 with 11:46 remaining in the game. Whittlesey then led the Bulldogs on scoring drives of 51 and 65 yards to put them on top 49-45 with 3:25 left in the game. Needing a total of six plays to complete these scoring drives, Whittlesey connected on touchdown passes of 15 and 18 yards.

During the decisive scoring drives, Whittlesey completed 6-of-6 passes for 116 yards.

Whittlesey finished the game with 323 yards passing and five touchdowns on 25-of-34 passing. This was his fifth 300-yard passing game and the eighth time he threw for three or more touchdowns. The five touchdown passes match his career high, having previously hit the mark against Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 47-46 loss on Oct. 11, 2014.

The Columbus, Ga., native also ran for 37 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in the four-point win.

During the game, Whittlesey became the fourth player in program history to surpass 6,000 career passing yards. He currently has 6,127 passing yards and 56 passing touchdowns to his credit. Whittlesey ranks eighth on the all-time rushing list with 1,634 career yards.

On the season, Whittlesey has completed 69-of-120 passes for 1,047 yards and 12 touchdowns and has rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He ranks 10th in the NAIA in total offensive yards per game (301.0), 11th in total offensive yards (1,204) and 15th in both total passing yards (1,047) and passing yards per game (261.8).

At 3-1 overall and 2-0 in MSC East play, Union is off to its best start since 2008 when it opened the year 5-0.

Union returns to action Saturday when it visits No. 7 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT.
