BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union College football team is off to its best start since the 2009 season and looks to continue the momentum Saturday as it welcomes University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) for the annual 'Battle for the Brass Lantern' game.

Kickoff is set for 7:07 p.m. at Williamson Stadium.

The Bulldogs opened the season with three roads, coming away with a 2-1 overall record. Meanwhile, the Patriots are 2-2 overall.

Not only is this a rivalry game, it is also a Mid-South Conference (MSC) East contest. Both teams are 1-0 in MSC East play with each facing division newcomer Cincinnati Christian (Ohio). Union opened the season with a 42-0 road win over Cincinnati Christian, while Cumberlands picked up a 42-7 home win against the Eagles.

This year's edition of the Brass Lantern game brings the potential of an offensive explosion from both teams. Cumberlands is averaging 270.0 rushing yards per game to go along with 27.75 points per game. Union ranks 13th in the NAIA in scoring offense at 36.7 points per game and is 15th in total yards per game (452.7).

On special teams, Cumberlands is averaging 22.2 yards per kick returns, but Union is second in the nation at 27.6 yards per return. When kicked to, Jalen Ashby (JR/Tallahassee, Fla.) has been lightning, averaging 38.0 yards per return to lead the NAIA. Ashby has returned four kicks for 152 yards.
