CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Union College men's and women's bowling teams opened their 2015-16 seasons this past weekend, taking part in the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes. 

Overall, the Union women placed eighth in the competition as a team, while the Bulldog men finished ninth overall.

"There were several tough teams in the Green River Classic and we kept ourselves in play the entire tournament," said first-year head coach Brandy Hensley. "I believe that we have a lot of talent on our team and we will be contenders at the end of the year for conference titles."

Leading the way on the individual end for the women, were Katelynn George (SR/Crowley, Texas) and Marissa Campbell (SR/Brighton, Mich.). George finished 46th with a total pin count of 694, while Campbell finished in 47th place with 694 pins.

Elsewhere for the women, Kimberly Alexander (SR/Lebanon, Ind.) placed 59th with a two-day total of 635 pins. Kira Scott (SO) followed behind with 605 pins, good enough for 66th.

On the men's side, Trenton Schaibly (FR) finished the highest overall, finishing in 53rd with a pin total of 825. Thomas Reinhardt (FR) placed 48th with a two-day total of 817 pins.

Rounding out the Bulldog men, Nicholas Worley (FR) finished 69th (667 pins) and Michael Ingram (JR/Memphis, Tenn.) placed 71st (662 pins). Richard Scalzo (FR) finished in 75th place with total of 649 pins.

"We have a lot of room for growth," Hensley said. "have confidence in our athletes that we will continue to improve and be competitive."

The Union College men's and women's bowling teams return to action on Saturday, taking part in the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
