BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Brandy Hensley has been named the head coach of the Union College men's and women's bowling coach, Director of Athletics Tim Curry recently announced.

"We are very excited to add an excellent young coach like Brandy to our staff. Although, we lost an outstanding young coach in Chelsea Gilliam, we feel that Brandy is a great fit to take over our program and continue to move it forward," Curry said. "I am excited to see the growth for both Coach Hensley and our Bowling program in the years to come."

She spent 2013-2014 as a graduate assistant for University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) where she was a part of starting the bowling program at the university.

Hensley graduated from the University of Pikeville (Ky.) in 2013, where she was a three-year starter for the Bears. She was named a NAIA First-Team All-American and a NCBCA Honorable Mention All-American in 2012, while leading the Bears to a 2012 NAIA National Championship. In 2013, Hensley was named to the 2013 Mid-South Conference First-Team.

"When the opportunity came, I was real excited for the opportunity to become a head coach," Hensley said. "I think we have a good time and we can build off of it in the years to come."

In her first head coaching job, Hensley takes over two programs that sport a combined eight upperclassmen.

"I would like for us to make sections and qualify for the national tournament," Hensley said. "My focus this season is that I want us to do well in conference. The men have been runner-ups the past two season and I want to make that final push."

Hensley graduated from Pikeville with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2013. She plans to earn her Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Cumberlands in May 2016.

The Bulldogs will open the 2015-2016 season with the Green River Classic hosted by Campbellsville (Ky.). The classic is set for Sept. 26-27.
